Jonathan Yardley has been covering high school ice
hockey in New Jersey since 1996. A native of Morristown and a Delbarton
alumnus, he graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 2005 with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in history and English. While at Rice, he served two
years as sports editor and one year as co-editor in chief of The Rice
Thresher, the weekly student newspaper. He also worked as a radio
broadcaster for the Rice baseball team, the 2003 NCAA College World Series
champions. Yardley spent the 2005 professional baseball season broadcasting for
the Yakima (Wa.) Bears,
class-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He
spent the 2006 baseball season broadcasting for the United League Baseball
champion Alexandria (La.) Aces, an independent minor league baseball team. He
currently works for the Houston Dynamo, a Major League Soccer team, and serves
as radio play-by-play broadcaster.
He grew up watching hockey at Mennen Arena and for
five seasons (1996-97 to 2000-01) wrote a weekly newsletter and ran the webpage
for the MCSSIHL, the Morris County high school league. He now writes for Hockey
Night in Boston in addition to website and blog maintenance.
